AD ASTRA PER ASPERA

Yo, belakangan ini gue lagi asik dengerin album terbaru dari band favorit gue, PEE WEE GASKINS yang berjudul AD ASTRA PER ASPERA. Hem.. Gue mau ngebahas album band yang beranggotakan Sansan (vokal+gitar), Dochi (bass), Ayi (gitar), Omo (Synthesizer) dan Aldy (drum). Here we go..
Masih mengusung nuansa powerpop dengan penggunaan Synthesizer yang menjadi ciri khas mereka, total dua belas lagu tergabung dalam Ad Astra per Aspera. Diantaranya ada Dari mata sang garuda yang sebenarnya merupakan single lama yang keluar oktober 2009 lalu. Trus ada Sebuah rahasia yang menurut gue menceritakan tentang hubungan backstreet (hmmm...) dan Jakarta is a mistake yang udah dirilis duluan di purevolume.com. Nggak ada perbedaan yang kentara bgt dari album sebelumnya. Cuma tempo mereka lebih pelan dari yang kemaren. Single favorit gue di album ini adalah Aku bukan musuhmu featuring Heru shaggydog, Selama engkau hidup, Detik tak bergerak dan Satir sarkas.
Didominasi sama lagu-lagu berbahasa Indonesia membuatnya berbeda dari album sebelumnya, The Sophomore, yang hampir 90% memakai lirik bahasa inggris. Mungkin pengaruh labelnya yang bukan indie lagi kali yah? Sekarang PWG kan di major. Selalu ada asumsi kalo band Indie pindah ke major, kreatifitasnya bakal menurun dan lagu-lagu yang dihasilkannya nggak sebagus waktu itu band dijalur indie. Apakah hal ini terjadi juga dengan Pee Wee Gaskins? Gue nggak tau yah..
Well, Ad Astra per Aspera bukan album yang jelek. Lumayanlah, bagus! Lebih bagus dari album band-band lain yang berkeliaran di pasaran dan yang lo dengerin di radio. Tapi gue ngerasa ni album rada monoton. Datar. Gue ngerasa kurang greget aja. Entahlah, but I prefer The sophomore than Ad Astra per Aspera *nyengir bersalah*. Sebenarnya gue ngarepin kalo bakal ada single-single akustik kaya Everyday and everynight dan On the day just like day, seperti di Sophomore. Biar ada variasi aja.
Dan bintang yang gue berikan kepada Ad Astra per Aspera adalah empaaaaaaaaaatttt bintaaaaaaaaaanngg!!!!!!!! Yip yip... Terakhir gue nulis kalo gue berharap Aku Bukan Musuhmu featuring Heru Shaggydog jadi single kedua. Yap!

APRILIO STORY

A two piece band fronted by Abi OZ Utomo taking on Vocals and his brother Adri DUT Dwitomo on Guitar and Vocals. Produced by Kevin Aprilio, they bring forth a new blend of sound on the local indie scene and also the Major music here in Indonesia, ranging from Pop, Emotional teenage rock breakdowns to colorful fun verses and chorus. Duo yang dimotori oleh dua bersaudara Abi OZ Utomo di posisi Vocal dan Adri DUT Dwitomo di posisi Gitar band Vocal. Di produseri oleh Kevin Aprilio, mereka akan membawa warna baru kepada scene Major maupun Indie Indonesia. Percampuran dari nuansa Pop, breakdown Emo rock anak muda sampai kombinasi verse dan reff yang amat berwarna. Mereka akan memberi perasaan romance yang mendalam dan juga memberi warna musik yang baru di tahun 2010 ini!

NEVER GIVE UP NOBITA

Nobita, the perennial loser. For forty-odd years now, the anime/manga character has been associated with getting beat-up by the school bully, getting a big-fat-zero on your test and getting bested by your environment despite being doted on by a futuristic blue robot cat from the future. And now in our 21st century existence, a chiptune/pop-punk band has joined the fight to prop-up our pathetic protagonist… Never Give Up Nobita! “As you might know, Nobita is portrayed as stupid, weak and quick to give in […] so we wanted to make music to jump-start Nobita and people like him,” explains Abud (guitar/vox) about the premise of Never Give Up Nobita. And that’s what Abud, Egi (guitar/vox), Ferdi (bass), Zicko (synths) and Dicky (drums/programming) has lived up to using their enthusiastic recorded output and energetic live shows. Since their inception in 2007, the band has released two freely downloadable hormonally-charged singles. The first of these was a track quizzically, yet deliciously, titled “Quit School To Buy A Doll For Your Valentine”. This sugary cane of a third-generation-emo 8-bit pop-punk track was surprisingly recorded under the modest circumstances in a very short-time. “From 10 am to 10 pm,” elaborated Abud recalling the process of recording the YCMK/Motion City Soundtrack influenced home-made track with Egi and ex-member Adrian. Now, with a song-in-hand Abud and Egi went out to the major hang-out places in Bandung and proceeded to distribute the song themselves. “Some people actually referred to us as “The Bluetooth Band” confessed Abud referring to the main mode of distribution in the early days of Never Give Up Nobita. Luckily the song gained traction on their MySpace, and their Bluetooth-heavy salad days are over. And now Abud and Egi was tasked with assembling a stable line-up of musicians to showcase their songs on the Bandung indie circuit (which is made up of high-school and university fairs).

THE ONLY EXCEPTION

Life brings me many things. Rest of that are abstract. Something that I must find and break by myself. Sometimes I feel tired. It’s so hard for me. I’m just a young woman that has ordinary abilities. Me against the world. Can you imagine?

Is someone want to help me? But I can’t find him or her. Actually I prefer him. Boys have ideas that sometimes make me stunned. Hahah, we almost out of topic, right? I have many friends. They are super girls! They are my sisters. Really, I can trade on them. But, I can’t depend on them forever. I must depend with my self. All of this will be back to me again. Me, the only exception. I’m sure I can against the world.
